On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Ashcroft v. Raich, regarding a ruling from the Ninth Circuit which had held that federal anti-drug laws may not override California's medical marijuana law. The week before, Randy Barnett, professor of law at Boston University and counsel for Raich, practiced his arguments in the Ames Courtroom under the scrutiny of six HLS faculty "justices" and an audience of more than 200 in a moot court sponsored by the Harvard Federalist Society and HLS Forum. Professors Fried, Shapiro, Young, Parker, Meltzer, and Calabresi took part in the practice session.
